Accepted in June 2023, "You’ll never walk alone – The effects of walkability on pregnancy behaviors and outcomes" is now available online. This study, authored by Karen S. Conway, and former UNH PhD student, Andrea K. Menclova, "investigates the relationship between local walkability and physical activity and subsequent health outcomes among pregnant women – for whom walking is the recommended, and by far most common, form of exercise."

Study higlights include:

  • Women residing in more walkable counties have better birth outcomes.
  • Walkability reduces the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight.
  • Walkability reduces the risk of gestational diabetes and hypertension.
  • Pregnant women in more walkable counties walk and exercise more.
