Changing major to Economics (BA)
To be eligible to declare the major students must meet the following requirements:
- Be currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program at UNH Durham
- Have completed a minimum of 12 credits at UNH Durham
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Have completed both ECON 401 and ECON 402 and earned a grade of B- or above
- A student may take ECON 605 or 611 and earn a B- or above to replace a lower grade in ECON 401 or 402
- While transfer courses approved as equivalent may satisfy major requirements, they do not meet declaration criteria. If both intro courses are transferred into UNH, students must complete 2 ECON courses in Paul College with a grade of B- or better
- Be in good conduct standing
To set the foundation for success in your anticipated major while also making overall degree progress, students should follow this recommended course sequence.
First-year, first-semester students will need two semesters to complete the requirements for application eligibility.
Course sequencing may depend on seat availability, and we recommend that students take no more than two Paul College courses at a time to maintain a balanced workload.
- Begin with a combination of the following courses:
- ECON 401 or ECON 402
- ECON 401 and 402 should be taken in separate semesters to ensure a balanced workload and deeper understanding of the material.
- ECON 401 or ECON 402
- Once the above courses are completed, students can move onto
- ECON 605 and ECON 611
- ECON 605 and ECON 611 should be taken in separate semesters to ensure a balanced workload and deeper understanding of the material.
- ECON 605 and ECON 611
All current UNH degree program students who wish to declare the Economics BA must complete the online change of major process through Webcat.
Major change requests are reviewed regularly, but eligibility will not be determined until final grades are posted for any in-progress coursework.
Non-degree students must apply through the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
You will receive an email once your major change request and eligibility have been reviewed.
If you are accepted to Paul College
We will help you arrange your course schedule considering prerequisite courses, course sequencing and major/option. Your schedule may not look as you expected.
- We cannot guarantee your previous graduation timeline as you are changing your major. You will meet with an advisor to map out your remaining time in your new major to see when your new graduation timeline will be.
- If a student has transferred major required courses from another institution, consultation with Drew Patrick is required to determine if the courses are equivalent to Paul College courses. This normally occurs after acceptance.
- Paul College fees include a tuition differential, which is the same for both N.H. residents and non-residents. This fee covers resources specific to Paul College students. For more information click here.
If you are not accepted to Paul College
At that point, it is suggested you meet with your current Academic Advisor to discuss your options. You should work with your current Academic Advisor to help determine if you should submit a major change request to Economics BA during the following semester or consider another major.
