Utilizing a part of the time available during his sabbatical, Professor Dev Dutta offered a whirlwind 8-week EMBA course titled ‘Design Thinking for Innovation’ to students at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The twenty 90 minute class sessions were held in the synchronous mode, and differing geographies and time-zones did not pose a problem. Zoom worked incredibly well as students participated in intense class discussions, case studies, group projects, and reflection papers - going all the way from studying design thinking at Apple, SAP, and PepsiCo to tackling teenage depression, homelessness, and imagining new innovative products and services based on AI, VR, and the Metaverse. The course wound up with application of design thinking to design one’s life - including identifying one’s transcendent purpose, values, ikigai, and developing personal strategies to break the negative cycle of immunity to change.
