RE: Undergraduate Research Opportunities (Spring 2022)

The Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research funds research, scholarly and creative projects in ALL fields of study. Please inform your students of the opportunities described below and especially encourage students who you think are prepared for this type of experience.

INCO 590:  Student Research Experience
1-4 credits.  Entry-level, apprenticeship experience; designed to help students develop research skills and prepare for more advanced research. INCO 590 gives students the opportunity to assist faculty members in their scholarly, research, and teaching activities.  Up to $200 (per semester) is available to support research expenses.  (Registration follows add/drop period. Last day to ADD: February 4, 2022.)

INCO 790:  Advanced Research Experience
1-4 credits.  Advanced-level experience; designed for students who are conducting more advanced research and applying research skills they already have developed. INCO 790 gives students the opportunity to pursue an independent project in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Up to $200 (per semester) is available to support research expenses.  (Registration follows add/drop period. Last day to ADD: February 4, 2022.)

Undergraduate Research Awards
For academic year or summer research at UNH or another research site within the United States. (Research time commitment is flexible: 100-125 hours.)

Application Deadline:  March 2, 2022 (for research during summer or fall 2022)
Stipend Award: $1000 (if research is not for credit)
Expense Award: $600 maximum (for credit- or non-credit-bearing research)
Eligibility: Minimum 2.0 cumulative UNH GPA

SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (SURF) USA
Ten weeks of full-time research at UNH or another research site within the United States.

Application Deadline: March 2, 2022 (for summer 2022)
Fellowship: $3,500
Expense Award: $600 maximum
Eligibility: Minimum 3.0 cumulative UNH GPA & at least sophomore status at time of application

Research Experience and Apprenticeship Program (REAP)
For first-year Honors students, ten weeks of full-time summer research at UNH or another U.S. site

Nomination Deadline: February 25, 2022 for summer 2022
Application Deadline: March 28, 2022 for summer 2022
Fellowship: $3500
Expense Award: $600 maximum
Eligibility: NEW: Now open to students outside the University Honors Program.

Students must have completed at least one full semester (fall) at the time of application; must have a minimum UNH GPA of 3.8 at the end of fall semester; must be nominated no later than February 25, 2022 by the instructor of a completed fall course; and must meet with the Hamel Center director, Dr. Paul Tsang, no later than February 25, 2022.
