Q&A with Full-Time MBA Student Karen Zhang '21

Karen Zhang '21, from China, chose UNH Paul College for her MBA because she found she wanted to "improve myself in understanding IT, management, finance and product innovation. I want to understand more about American culture." In this Q&A she talks about her experience in the Full-Time MBA program and the challenges presented by being an international student.

Q. What made you choose to study at UNH’s Paul College over others offered in the region and the world?

I like the natural and academic environment around here.

Q. What are you hoping to get out of the programme you are currently enrolled in?

I want to improve myself in understanding IT, management, finance and product innovation. I want to understand more about American culture.

Q. Can you describe your experience as a student at the School (e.g. faculty support, facilities, clubs/extracurricular activities, study abroad experience, etc. wherever applicable)?

People I’ve met, including professors and other faculty members, are really helpful. The Global Education Center provides help to ease any difficulty adapting to the culture here.

Q. Describe the learning culture and community at UNH. Is it something you feel is unique, that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere? If so, kindly describe in detail.

This is a hard program - especially as we are in the first semester. I am still trying to manage everything and trying my best to do well too.

Q. Have there been any practical, industry or career-based experiences opened to you as a student at UNH?

Not yet as I just arrived for the first year.

Q. What is your most memorable UNH experience so far?

The care from faculty, and the soccer game. The nice environment.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time and what have you learned from UNH that will help you reach this position?

I believe that I can achieve more in my career especially after I learn more about IT, finance and management.

Q. What advice would you offer a prospective international student considering the UNH Peter T Paul College of Business?

I recommend that UNH provides more help to international students. Students have a lot to adapt to. The first year is difficult.
