Paul College’s Diversity and Inclusion Working Group solicits proposals for grants to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in both curricular and co-curricular experiences.
The intent of this grant program is to provide resources for activities that will directly and/or indirectly influence student learning/experience, and that are not supported by current other resources. Proposed activities can include both one-time events and longer-term projects, with the expectation that project spending will be complete by 12/31/2022. Proposed activities should be linked to both short-term and long-term outcomes for student experience at Paul.
Proposals should address how the applicant(s) will utilize the funding to advance diversity, equity, and/or inclusion in the curricular and/or co-curricular experiences of Paul college undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Diversity in organizations defined: the range of identities, ideas, perspectives, and cultures available to contribute to the work at hand.
Inclusion: defines how well the range of diverse perspectives above, voiced by a varied group of invited participants, is incorporated into the discussion.
Equity: that all have the same opportunity to contribute, which might involve some accommodations or extra effort
Applicant teams should usually include participants from at least two of the following groups: faculty, students, staff. When appropriate to the project, inclusion of stakeholders from beyond the college is also possible.
Teams may request up to $2,500 - $3,500 for projects.
The working group expects to fund up to four projects this year. Projects will have a 13-month time frame for completion, running from November 15, 2021, to December 31, 2022.
Examples of potential proposed activities (in curriculum, college climate, co-curricular programming, etc.) include the following:
Design & pilot a diversity & inclusion training for student organization leaders, led by staff.
Support a faculty-student summer research opportunity focused on a DEI-relevant question that will yield a product that can be used in in curricula in the future.
Summer support for faculty time to undertake major curricular reviews/revisions beyond normal syllabus updates, such as the creation of new curricular materials/cases that incorporate DEI issues and/or representation.
- Each project team will meet at least two times with the Paul D & I working group to update its members on progress/challenges and identify opportunities to support project needs.
- At the conclusion of funding, each team will report on the project objectives, activities, and outcomes, as well as learning that can be applied to future projects.
- Team members of all projects will share their projects and progress with the Dean of Paul College in Spring 2022.
- Page 1: Proposal Title and a list of team members (not to exceed 7); short bios of each member; indicate the role each team member will play. Teams ideally will include participants from at least two of the following categories: faculty, students, or staff.
- Page 2: A description of the proposed project (not to exceed 2 single-spaced pages), including specific objectives and expected outcomes, measures of success, and timeline.
- Page 3: Include a budget (not to exceed $2500-$3500) and explanation of how each expense listed supports the proposed project.
