One student turned his internship at KPMG in Boston into a full-time job offer, while another got her foot in the door at Amazon Web Services in Seattle.
These stories represent just a few of the successful career-building experiences that Paul College students have achieved with the support of the Internship Opportunity Fund (IOF).
The IOF provides stipends of up to $2,500 to help students access high-quality internships that may otherwise be out of reach due to financial constraints. These stipends can be applied toward travel and living expenses for students interning in metropolitan areas, non-profits, social enterprises, and start-ups that may not provide their own compensation.
Thanks to the ongoing generosity of Paul College alumni, along with contributions from the Dean’s Advisory Board and friends of the college, students can pursue these transformative experiences that are critical to their professional growth.
“Our alumni support the IOF through the 603 Challenge. Donations from $3.06 to over $3,000 make it possible for students to be able to say yes to internships that otherwise may be out of their financial reach,” says Kim Clark, director of the Business in Practice program. “These internship experiences allow Paul College students to begin building their careers.”
In the summer of 2024 alone, $51,200 in IOF funding allowed 23 students to embark on impactful internship journeys.
Here are just a few of those internship stories
Tiffany Marrotte ‘24 |Business Administration: Marketing, with minors in Sales and Art Administration | Sales Intern (Demand Generation) at Amazon Web Services, Seattle, WA
“The IOF provided stability by providing me with a boost of assistance, allowing me to focus on my job, afford groceries, have a life outside of work, and enjoy Seattle. This internship has absolutely changed my life. I never saw myself moving across the country, never mind working for one of the biggest companies in the world."
Toby Genova ‘25 | Business Administration: Accounting | Audit Intern at KPMG, Boston, MA
“The IOF was a game-changer for helping me experience city life in Boston without stressing about money the whole time. During my internship, I had to pay for housing in Boston while maintaining my rent in Durham.”
Aiden Giarnese ‘25 | Analytical Economics | Economics & Social Affairs Intern to United States Mission to the UN, New York City, NY
“Having the IOF has been such a relief. My first paycheck came four weeks into my internship, so even with my tight budgeting I would have been spread very thin without your assistance!”
Rachel Wells ‘25 | Business Administration: Management | Executive-In-Training Intern at Macy’s, Boston, MA
“I wouldn't have been able to accept my internship without the funding from this stipend and it means a great deal to me that I was lucky enough to be one of its recipients. This summer has truly added to my experience of the real world and given me a unique opportunity that I'll never forget.”
Shea Garland ‘27 | Business Administration: Management | Customer Service Intern at Meredian, Long Island, NY
“Without the funds I would not have considered this internship possible for this summer. Being able to take this opportunity I have learned more about myself and my career path. This internship at Meridian has helped me learn that I want to continue pursuing real estate and I will be applying for my salesperson license in the fall.”
