Khue Thi Cam Nguyen '16 found studying and working on projects with American students helped her understand the differences in work cultures between Vietnam and the United States.
What made you choose UNH’s Paul College of Business over others offered in the region and the world?
I was impressed with how beautiful the campus looked in the brochure. When I did more research, I found out that UNH offered a shorter full-time MBA program which is very suitable for a working professional like me. I did not want to spend two years getting my graduate degree, so this worked out perfectly. I also experienced exceptional communication with the admission office as they were helpful in providing me useful information for my decision.
Can you describe your experience as a student at UNH (e.g., faculty support, facilities, clubs/extracurricular activities, study abroad experience, etc. - wherever applicable). What were some of your most memorable experiences?
I enjoyed the study abroad experience in China. It allowed us to interact with a lot of executives working in the country, both expats and natives.
Describe the learning culture and community at UNH. Is it something you feel is unique, that you would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere? If so, kindly describe in detail.
Compared to my experiences in the United States, studying at UNH was a much more intimate environment for learning. I was able to reach out to professors quite easily during the duration of my program. I appreciate that they have several international students in the program from all over the world because that helps all of us to learn different cultural perspectives.
What are you currently doing since graduating from UNH? (i.e., work, further studies, volunteering, etc.)
I am currently working for an insurance company in Nashua, NH.
Are there any practical skills, knowledge or career-based experiences that were open to you as a UNH student? How has that helped you in your life/career thus far? If yes, kindly elaborate.
Studying and working on projects with American students helped me understand the differences in work cultures from my own country which prepared me for working in the United States.
Do you feel UNH has helped you establish a strong business network? If so, please describe how this came about and how you think it benefits you as a professional.
Unfortunately, as an international student, it was challenging for me to find work in New Hampshire after graduation. I attribute this to a smaller job market and a lack of diversity in the state.
What advice would you offer a prospective international student considering the UNH Peter T. Paul College of Business?
Explore the regional job market far in advance to know what areas to focus on while choosing electives. Though confident in my professional past, as an international student with English as my second language, I discovered that the skills I had in my home country did not translate to the US job market. If I had known this in advance, I would have chosen a different path within the MBA program.
