Why are women still underrepresented in tech, even as other industries make strides toward gender equity? 

A new study by UNH Paul College Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences Yifei Wang, published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, challenges a common assumption: that women shy away from competition in the workplace. Wang's research found that not only are women eager to bid on competitive IT work, but they often do so more than men—particularly when tasks require high coordination complexity. 

These findings add nuance to the conversation around gender disparity in tech, suggesting that institutional barriers—not a lack of willingness to compete—may be contributing to the gap.
