RE: Undergraduate Research Opportunities (Fall 2021)
Please inform your students of the opportunities described below and especially encourage students who you think are prepared for this type of experience. The Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research funds research, scholarly and creative projects in ALL fields of study. We also publish Inquiry, UNH’s online undergraduate research journal, which is accepting submissions through the end of September.
Fall 2021 program deadlines are listed below. You may also visit the Hamel Center website to learn about other undergraduate research opportunities available throughout the year.
INCO 590: Student Research Experience
1-4 credits. Entry-level, apprenticeship experience; designed to help students develop research skills and prepare for more advanced research. INCO 590 gives students the opportunity to assist faculty members in their scholarly, research, and teaching activities. Up to $200 (per semester) is available to support research expenses. (Registration follows add/drop period.)
INCO 790: Advanced Research Experience
1-4 credits. Advanced-level experience; designed for students who are conducting more advanced research and applying research skills they already have developed. INCO 790 gives students the opportunity to pursue an independent project in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Up to $200 (per semester) is available to support research expenses. (Registration follows add/drop period.)
Undergraduate Research Awards
For academic year or summer research at UNH or another research site within the United States. (Research time commitment is flexible.)
Application Deadline: October 6, 2021 (for research during January term or spring 2022)
Stipend Award: $1000 (if research is not for credit)
Expense Award: $600 maximum (for credit- or non-credit-bearing research)
Eligibility: Minimum 2.0 cumulative UNH GPA
Research Presentation Grants
To support undergraduate research presentations at conferences and professional meetings off campus
Application Deadline: Rolling
Expense Award: Varies, based on available funds
Eligibility: Written notice of acceptance to present at an off-campus conference
INQUIRY journal
Inquiry offers undergraduate researchers in ALL disciplines at the University the opportunity to communicate their experiences and results to general as well as academic audiences worldwide—the final and very important step in the research process. Submissions for the 2022 issue will be accepted through September 30, 2021. The journal is published annually in April.
COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to the continuing global pandemic, our international programs (IROP, SURF Abroad, Study Abroad Research Grant) have been suspended for AY2021-22.
