On February 12th, the Accounting Department and Scott Migliori, a Partner at PwC, one of the Big-4 International Accounting Firms, hosted a Technology in Accounting Virtual Event. Despite being held on a Friday afternoon, over 200 students attended.

Scott is a UNH alum having earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNH. Scott and his team made a presentation to help attendees better understand how the Fourth Industrial Revolution is impacting the accounting industry and the business world.

Topics included artificial intelligence, augmented reality, blockchain, drones, internet of things, robotics, virtual reality, and 3-D printing. Highlights included the demonstration of a bot that was programmed to complete complex tax returns saving hundreds of employee hours each year, and drones that were used to count inventory as part of a financial statement audit. Scott and his team made it clear that these new technologies are not eliminating jobs. Rather, they are allowing employees to focus more time on critical thinking and problem solving to help their clients excel.

Many thanks to Megan Turnbull from Paul Career Services for helping organize the event.
