It was awkward. I called a prospect and as we got to chatting and I began my pitch, he cut in and said ‘I’m actually no longer with the company.’ I got the impression he had been laid off. He was one of my top prospects and I didn’t know where to go with it anymore. A couple weeks later, I saw that he had posted an interesting article on LinkedIn. I ‘slid into his DMs’ and expressed my interest in the content of the article. This conversation led to him asking about the company I worked for and what it was, and I gave him a quick pitch. He told me that wherever he finds his next job, that he’d keep us and our services in mind. I felt awkward reaching out to him again despite what happened, but it worked out. You just have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Matt is the President of the UNH Sales Program and oversees the UNH Sales Club and Professional Sales Group.
