Ryan Meader '22, a Marketing major, is spending his summer as a Social Media Marketing Intern with Helios Hockey.

"I discovered Helios through the UNH Entrepreneurship Center Start Up Internship Program, and right away it seemed like a perfect match. My now boss, Bill, is a young aspiring entrepreneur who I share a lot of qualities and values with. We connected instantly, and I honestly look forward to traveling to Portsmouth during the week and collaborating with him. There were definitely some nerves before my first day, but once I got situated, I knew this place was a perfect fit. Ever since we got started, I have been both super productive and happy working here.

I have run my own business throughout college, so I’ve spent endless hours on marketing efforts, but it has been cool to learn how to really apply that experience and my education to an unfamiliar company. The biggest takeaway so far has been learning how marketing objectives get communicated from a CEO down, and how to bring together varying visions for a brand in execution.

Summer internships like this aren’t just a nice change up from most students' previous summer gigs–they’re brilliant segues from a college education to a career. Places like Helios open doors for endless networking possibilities. Now that I am seriously passionate about Helios Hockey as a brand and as a start-up, I would love to stay involved in one way or another after my internship ends. But even if this doesn’t lead to a full-time position after college, I have made connections to other employers through this job."
