Looking back at 2022, we are proud to have organized and participated in a wide range of events and activities in collaboration with Paul College, UNH, our industry partners, and our dedicated team. These events covered various topics, including networking, business intelligence, machine learning, marketing, predictive analytics, and related areas. We attended conferences and seminars across the USA. Students made a significant impact last year by assisting over 15 companies to improve their efficiency and performance.

In addition to these events, we were honored to be a part of several student-faced engagements: resume building, personal branding, LinkedIn engagement, mock interviews, and industry mentorships. The Center provided a platform for students to connect with our partners and us and further develop their professional skills.

We are off to a great start in 2023. But let’s pause and reflect on some of our favorite highlights of 2022:

Growth of the Industry Ambassador Program: Established in 2021, the Industry Ambassador is designed to be a network of industry supporters and mentors for the Center, our business partners, students--and each other. The Program now has more than 50 members, with growing interest in it.

AWS re:Invent: This learning event in Las Vegas, Nevada, was focused on cloud computing for a global audience. Some of the amazing keynote speakers included Adam Selipsky, Chief Executive Officer of Amazon Web Services and Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President, Data and Machine Learning, AWS, who provided valuable insights on innovations in data, security, and infrastructure.

We also had a mini-reunion, as we ran into Paul College MBA graduate, Alyson Veo!

Prior to joining the Center, Andrew Mitchell was Alyson's advisor while she completed her MBA. Now she’s enjoying a successful career with Datadog!

We had a great time at the conference connecting with the larger tech community, learning best practices around cloud architecture, and spreading the word about what we're building here in New Hampshire.

Washington Trip: In August, our friends at Synectics for Management Decisions, Inc. graciously sponsored a 4-day trip to Washington, DC, culminating with a celebratory reception at the historic Army & Navy Club.

During this trip, our team of student analysts, led by Project Manager Fahime Ebrahimi (Economics Ph.D.), presented their work and research on the automation of survey documents using RPA--robotic process automation--to reduce manual format processing to Synectics’ executive team.

We had a chance to visit many historical places, including the Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art, the Natural History Museum, the Capitol, and different monuments. (There was ice cream too!)

Supply Chain Networking Night: This workshop, co-sponsored with our friends at UNH Professional Development & Training, provided students and small businesses with the chance to do hands-on learning with an industry leader, Paul College Senior Lecturer of Decisions Sciences, Russell Miles, who has 25+ years of experience in the supply chain, operations, and corporate strategy. We encouraged our attendees to share their views on current industry needs for entry-level Supply Chain talent and how Paul College can better prepare students for careers in Supply Chain Management / Analytics.

When Pigs Fly Breads Factory Tour: James and Grant Broom —the President and the CEO of When Pigs Fly Bakery— hosted us at their manufacturing facility in York, Maine.

In partnership with four senior capstone students from computer science and IT, we are working with When Pigs Fly on a predictive modeling and operations analysis project to help them become more efficient in their production and distribution of bread to 500+ stores. The tour helped us get a better understanding of the process from start to finish.

International Luncheon: Sponsored by the Center in association with Paul College’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, this campus-wide event allowed students and faculty to connect and have productive conversations, and enjoy food and music. There was a fantastic turnout for this event - full house and a line spanning the whole Great Hall here at Paul College: 300+ attendees!

These are just some key highlights of all the fantastic things we did last year. 2022 has been a year of tremendous growth and learning as we engaged with industry experts and expanded our knowledge and skills in the field of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics. We are proud of the achievements we’ve made and the relationships we’ve built, and we look forward to continued success in 2023.
