  • work with UNH faculty and students
  • travel to see and meet industry people
  • receive a certificate of completion for the UNH Hospitality Management Summer Program

This is your opportunity to explore your interest in UNH and the world's largest industry — hospitality management.

About Our Summer Program

The Hospitality Management Summer Program is a one week program that high school rising seniors would be immersed in a mini-hospitality program.

While living on the UNH campus, experience the excitement of college life, take college courses with renowned faculty, meet hospitality students, and enjoy an "unforgettable, life-changing summer."

This first-class introduction to hospitality management is taught at UNH's world-renowned Department of Hospitality Management, currently one of oldest programs in the country.

Through presentations, hands-on experience, guest speakers, computer simulations, and more, this program will introduce you to the scope of the hospitality industry, to the major players, and to the market forces at play in this competitive field.

During the summer program you will:

  • Develop a framework for understanding the hospitality industry. You will examine the primary business models and ownership structures in the industry and identify the values that drive traditional hotel brands and foodservice operations.
  • Experience first-hand how to run a foodservice operation by spending two days in our state of the kitchen facilities (cooking your own meals with talented chefs).
  • Visit restaurants in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and meet the owners, chefs, and service personnel.
  • Visit separate styles of lodging establishments, from 4-star luxury to small inns. At each of these venues you see first-hand how they operate by “Shadowing” the general manager and operating staff, learning more about hotel departments and their management, people, functions, and influence on the guest experience.
  • Use the acclaimed HotelSim hotel simulation to operate a virtual 250-room 4-star hotel. In small teams and competing against your classmates, you will learn how to maximize your hotel's revenues and profits while also meeting the needs of your guests and your shareholders.

All this will be capped off with a recognition dinner were all participants will receive a certificate of completion from the UNH Hospitality Management Summer Program.
